Saturday, August 06, 2005Important Please Read! Message from John Kyle Beaton (my almost brother-in-law ![]() Hey all!! As some of you may very well know I will be leaving this August the 19th to partake in a volunteer internship postion with Canada World Youth's Netcorps. I will be spending 3 months in Regina and then an additional 3 months in a developing community in western Ukraine. I am very, very excited to have this opportunity or a lifetime! For those of you not familiar, Canada World Youth is a non-profit, volunteer organization. It focuses on bringing young people to volunteer together, from all different backgrounds with a single focus - development of just, harmonious and sustainable societies. The program requires me to raise a minimum of $1950.00 in order to fund this program, and also future programs. Part of the fundraising efforts will include a raffle draw I'm holding with the prize being $100.00 in lottery tickets. Also there will be a monthly newsletter giving you an in-depth never before seen look at a Canada World Youth internship through my eyes! It will include pictures, interviews, excerpts from a journal I will keep, video feeds and more! Is it highly priced like my Fashion Weekly or Mens Health subscriptions where my money goes directly to some business executive's Mercede's 22" rims you ask?!! You will be happy to know that for the low one time price of $20 you will be helping greatly my volunteer efforts and receiving in return a monthly, very creative, indepth newsletter unlike any other! If you are curious as to what it will look like I have a sample template done up that I would be glad to send, just lemme know. I know money is often tight, but if you could scrape together the change I would be forever grateful! For those of you who have agreed already to purchase a subscription I hope to hear from you to arrange a time to meet, those of you who have already payed - thanks so much, and those interested I look forward to hear from you soon! It is REALLY important to hear back from everyone as soon as possible as I am leaving in two weeks time and it is very hard to find the time to get a hold of everyone! The best way to reach me is by email at johnbeaton@gmail.com or by phone at 569-3729. Anyone who is interested in the program or wants more information on how to apply or get involved can feel free to drop me a line also. I am always happy to answer any questions! PS> There will also be a fundraising bbq this Saturday, Aug. the 6th from 10am-2pm at the West Royalty Sobeys (accross from Canadian Tire), so if you're in the area be sure to stop by! PPS> For more information you can check out the UPEI website at http://www.upei.ca by clicking on the "Canada World Youth Recruits Student From UPEI" newslink. Or you can look for my article in todays (Wed, Aug. 3) Guardian titled, "Young Islander part of delegation to Ukraine." I hope to also have a going away party to see everyone before I have to take off. More details about that will follow! Thanks a million, John :) ![]() The fundraising BBQ is today, come one come all!! Anyone that can, please help John out, he's a wonderful person and really deserves this opportunity! All the best Johnny!
Monday, August 01, 2005Anyone that didn’t go to Toga Party 2005 missed one hell of a time. ![]() Chuck, Kevin, Dan and I headed out to BP and arrived just after the sunset so we were forced to put up our tents in the dark. This wasn’t a problem for most people, but seeing as how our tent was new it was a tad bit difficult! I must say I was a little skeptical about the tent at first but it’s growing on me, I like the igloo look! Here is a recap from Toga 2005: ~ Insane amounts of people, what a great turn out! ~ We got our own torch! Woo hoo, thanks Tyler! ~ It was the best night for camping, not too warm or cold. ~ Lots of snacks. ~ Long conversations with intelligent people. ~ Sing alongs featuring Ian on the guitar. ~ Me being the ONLY one from my crew left standing at the end of the night! ~ The sky was clear and the stars were bright, it was breathtaking. ~ Talks about band, nutrition class and Professor Hurta, ~ Crazy drunk guy in the morning trying to tell Stacy she was “fake” and a “waste of space” because she had blonde hair. He didn’t even know her!! Ignorant people really piss me off. Try educating yourself before you start talking about someone’s hair color determining what kind of person they are buddy. Ugh. ~ Night walks on the beach and wading in the water. ~ Morning sunrise walks @6am on the deserted beach when everyone is sleeping. ~ I wanted to go swimming, but Charles said it was too windy and he didn’t want to lose me! The waves were HUGE! ~ Topping the night off was getting home and having a hot shower then climbing into bed. What a great night. I can’t wait for Evolve, I know it’s going to be a blast! Thanks Gill for buying our tickets hope you’re having a blast in T.O. !! Now it’s 3:52am and I can’t sleep Off I go to make a salad!
