Busy week. Thank god it’s over!

Warning: Long Post

Last week had a lot of ups and downs, got a few good marks back and one really bad mark back, so I guess things leveled out.

Monday was my groups meal day presentation, we made a classic mandarin orange salad for the appetizer, pineapple ginger chicken stir fry for the entrée, followed by chocolate fondue with kiwi, mango, banana and grapes on the side for dessert. Overall the meal went fantastic, the ginger in the stir-fry was a little spicy for the 8 people we served, but other than that everything went well. This Monday our group gets to relax while the other group caters to us! I can’t wait! Word on the street is they’re making us cheesecake for dessert! Yee Haww!

Tuesday was my first volunteer day at the Humane Society and I can’t even describe how well it went.

Charles and I bathed a few dogs, one had been abused and neglected and she was the gentlest dog I have ever met. Her head hung low and she was very scared of us at first, but after a few reassuring pats and soothing words she was pretty content with being washed. After the bath she buried her head in my lap and didn’t want to go back to her kennel. I checked on her and fed her later in the day and she looked much happier after the bath! We also washed a cute dog that had been found on university avenue, she had fleas a few weeks before so she needed a really good cleaning.

We also walked about 8 dogs, we took Kia a huge collie mix for a really long walk up the trail around the humane society, and we took all the other dogs out in the park because it was hailing and windy. The dogs are hilarious and they all have different personalities, one dog was monstrous in size, her name is Chela and she is a Portuguese water dog mix, and another a really cute dog was a shepherd/pitbull mix named Ginger who was so excited she ripped the head of the big bird toy when Charles played with her. They looove stuffed animals!

We also fed about 40 dogs! There was a mother lab and her 5 babies, and we accidentally put the food bowl into the babies side of the kennel and when we came back 5 minutes later there were 5 babies devouring all the food for the mother haha! So Charles had to pry all the baby puppies off the food bowl (which was a tiring task) and when you remove one puppy another one would run back! Thankfully they are starting on puppy food next week anyways so it didn’t do them any harm!

There was an outbreak of kennel cough :S It’s not as bad as it sounds, it’s basically just like a human cold. Due to the kennel cough all the dogs had to be walked separately which meant we couldn’t walk as many :(

I love helping animals. I love how innocent they are, I love how unconditional their affection is, and I love how much of a difference ONE SINGLE person can make in their lives. I love it all so much that I just might have to make a really scary career change. I guess we’ll see how it pans out ;)

In family related news my sister Heidi just got a new job! She just graduated from the medical office assistant program a couple weeks ago and now she has a full time job at the West Royalty Medical center. I guess they were telling her that they interviewed half of her class, but they ended up picking her!! It’s just her and the doctor there during the days, he’s a internal specialist (mostly cardiac and gastro work). So she’ll be working 9-5 hour days, the doc doesn’t come in until 11am (he has surgery all morning) so she’s all alone in the office until 11 which will give her time to wake up and do her transcriptions. She has to transcribe all his notes and guide patients into the rooms and get their medical history and what not. She’s really excited, I’m very proud of her!

Last night Gill and I hit up myrons and had a grand old time, mixed Malibu rum drinks hit the spot! Danced up a storm and then went for pizza afterwards, which was delicious! I ended up sleeping in until 1:30 today, and I work 4-12 so I can’t go out after work. I planned on going out because my friend Sarah is moving to Africa next week to study the movement patters of baboons, but I have so much homework to do I can’t :S

Anywho, what a long post! That’s what happens when I only update once a week!

I finally got my new Christmas blog up and running! I still have a few more things to fix up and add to it, but I ran out of time and have to start doing some actual homework ;) The Christmas countdown on the right hand side is up and running, as well as the winking Santa on the banner! (you have to watch closely.. but he winks!)

I can finally relax, I had two midterms last week, one went fairly well (I hope) and the other not so well, the long answer for nutrition were tough, but I guess we’ll see how that turns out. I PASSED my Organic Chemistry midterm, just on the borderline! Considering the class average was 60% and about 2/3 of the class failed I am really happy. I really didn’t deserve to pass that exam because I didn’t understand hardly any of it. Not taking chemistry since 2000 is really coming back to haunt me, but I know I can pull through If I can pass stats I can pass any course!

Last Tuesday Charles and I went to an information meeting at the humane society and we now volunteer on Tuesdays! I am very excited to help out the animals. I'm sure I'll have lots of fun animal stories to tell!

Not much happened this weekend, Friday my niece came over and we baked a cake and made chicken pineapple stir fry! My foods group has to make a huge meal tomorrow, I am the head cook so I have to make the entrée (stir fry), it turned out really good, I was pleased. Let’s hope it goes well tomorrow and I don’t burn the place down!

Yesterday I worked 4-12 and got a few school assignments finished, today I have to write my paper for Family Resource Management, worth 20%, blarg!

Only 13 more days until I decorate my apartment for Christmas! Can’t wait!
