Saturday, August 02, 2003This the the craziest story I have heard in a while : Female koalas are being given contraception in the Australian state of Victoria because the population is eating itself out of house and home. Apparently some parks in Voctoira are planning on injecting over 3,000 wild femals Koalas with contraceptives in the Mount Eccles National Park. “The forest is continuing to decline as the animals just keep eating and breeding,” Troy told Reuters. “We’re concerned there is a really high risk that we will get a population crash in the next five years — that is the trees die and thousands of koalas starve to death,” Troy said. “We have found that relocation and surgical sterilization hasn’t worked that well, so now we’re shifting to a more humane, large scale option which is basically putting them on the pill.” The contraceptive implants can be inserted on the spot without anaesthetic and they last for about 5 years. Holy moly.. they need to make that available for humans :P “There’s not a lot of predator pressure on these animals anymore...They are also protected species so the numbers in some areas have just grown steadily,” That's insane, Yeesh, horny little buggers :P They are my favorite animal/marsupial.. I guess it means they are in no danger of becoming extinct. Yeeeee Hawwwwwwwwwww
Friday, August 01, 2003Today started off horribly with being woken up by about 10 phone calls from various people, ugh, working until 4 am sucks! I went to the Humane Society to drop off my application and to possible get a kitty... I took the kitty out of the cage and all it did for 5 minutes was bite me.. and not little kitty bites either.. really really hard, and he bit the handlers nose and almost drew blood.. so.. I think I will wait until I start volunteering there.. get to know some of the cats... and find out which one is best for me. I kinda like old cats.. they are more docile and can't run away from me when I snuff them :P heheh, people say I remind them of the crazy animal lover Elmyra from tiny toons.. I deny all accusations :P I was feeling blue that I didn't get a cat, so I stole my landlords cat and played with him for a while :) he's really cute, he was a stray too, he was almost dead when they found him and Ross nursed him back to health.. now he's got his full fur coat back. I guess I don't really need a cat, I can just leave my door open upstairs and Carlo can run down... but it's kinda nice being able to say it's my cat.. meh.. what can ya do. Back to work, like always. side- note : I think I pulled something in my shoulder.. damn the gym!!
While I was there I also fell in love with the cutest kitten... and I am trying to convince Charles to let me go back and get him tomorrow!! He is soooo cute, he is kinda orange and has a white chest with white paws.. and he is adorable.. the furriest thing ever!!!!he was meowing at me the whole time and playing with my fingers. He was trying to poke his head out of the cage :( awwwww See I was going to get one for Christmas, sort of a back to school present.. but I want the kitty now.. that way he can get used to me before I go back to school =)=)=)=) I am trying to think of good names, if anyone has any idea's leave me a shout out ! gotta run.....
Wednesday, July 30, 2003wOOt wOOt I got my acceptance letter back from UPEI.. lol Charles works at 8 so he brought it in !!! I knew I would get back in.. but it's still nice to have the actual written letter. All I have to do is register for second semester !! YAYYYYYY :) I AM SOOOO EXCITED !! I never thought I would be this excited to go back to school.. I can't wait... I want to take a road trip to Moncton or halifax like last year, everyone seems to be going on trips :) Only this time I will have a secure bathing suit.. so no mishaps at Majic Mountain :P I am going to the Humane society in the next few weeks and filling out a Volunteer application, 2 hours a week until January when I start school.. or maybe I'll stay on longer...not sure:) I need to become "well rounded " :) I Love the Humane Society and think this is going to make me feel so much better about myself because I will be helping animals :) that's all I ever wanted to do. I am hoping that once I become a dietician I can branch off into some animal related career. I mean.. animals need dieticians too.. don't they ???
Monday, July 28, 2003Baseball was a no-go again:( 2 hours watching annoying little kids throw around a baseball and fling themselves over fences is not my idea of fun.. Oh well.. maybe the game will actually happen someday. I had a few good chats anyways so it wasn't a waste! I watched final destination II a few days ago.. it was gruesome to say the least..not my kinda movie at all. For some reason I can't deal with movies about death lately.. I used to love watching them.. now they scare me too much. I Spent last night in and watched the latest Star Wars movie, it was entertaining, the fight scene with Yoda was amazing, who knew the little guy could move that fast :P Watched The Recruit too, Colin Farell was pretty good in the movie. I downloaded a bunch more movies.. it saves money.. and the pictures are really clear. I guess I am a hermit...After chatting with Bria I realized that I missed the biggest news to hit PEI ever !! Ottawa is investing $28 million over the next five years to help construct a new facility and establish a new research institute in Charlottetown, National Research Council Institute for Nutrisciences and Health (NRC-INH) Research at the centre will focus on finding ways to use food and natural compounds to fight disease and improve health for both humans and animals Owned by UPEI, the new building will provide space for teams of highly skilled research professionals from the university, industry, and NRC. The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency will contribute $8 million to UPEI for the construction of the building on the university’s campus. “So it’s all right here and we’re building on those strengths by making this institute the focal point for the country in nutriscience and health.’’ How great is that ?? It's awesome. As most people know, my first love is animals...however that road has been cut short because it's impossible to get into Vet school, Well it's impossible for ME to get in anyways... So.. my second choice would be Health Care.. I contemplated Nursing..and sort of convinced myself that it was for me. If I took that road I would have been making a HUGE mistake. I am not cut out for nursing..not even close to being cut out for it. I have always been interested in healthy eating and nutrition. I would love to help people create eating plans and set goals to live a healthier/happier life. I want make people aware, so they don't fall into the eating disorder trap, which is becoming more prevalent these days. We are only on this earth for a short time, we can never come back and do things over, this is why we should be concerned about keeping our bodies in shape so we can live longer. I am not talking about keeping your body super skinny, just healthy!! changing your eating lifestyle to benefit yourself and your family. I could go on and on about this..for whatever the reason, this is what I want.. and I am very happy that this center is opening up so students can have a wider variety of choices and opportunities. It's about time! Foods and Nutrition chicks, we're going to have an awesome 4 years !!
Sunday, July 27, 2003Yesterday I went Cell phone shopping with mel, I want a cell phone.. they are handy dandy! Maybe for christmas.. a cat with a cell phone on it's collar :D Bought a few things shopping nothing much. Kinda broke after buying a printer and a computer desk. Friday.. PAYDAY! also rent day ..crap. Went to the gym yesterday, good workout, nothing special. Gonna hit the gym again today at 3. I hate the the gym closes at 4 on Sunday's :( booo. Ahh well. Hopefully there will be a baseball game today, Not that I participate.. but hey I love watching. Brad, you can sit in the stands with me :) Hope that foot get's better babe.. that'll teach you to kick the monkey bars :P Last night was fun, no parties, so we just drank at my place, fun times.. I got my ass kicked in scrabble! I wanted to go to peakes but no one else wanted to join me :( losers :P buh bye =)
